On this day, 18th Rabi Ul Awal 9 AH, Umm Kulthum Bint Ali (R.A) was born in Madina. She was the fourth child and the youngest daughter of Hazrat Fatimah (R.A) and Hazrat Ali (R.A). Her siblings were Hasan (R.A), Husayn (R.A), and Zaynab (R.A). She was very devout and noble and dear to Hazrat Ali (R.A). On the 17th year of the Hijra, the marriage of Hazrat Umar Bin Khattab (R.A) with Umm Kulthum al-Hashimiyya (R.A) took place.
After the death of Hazrat Omar in 644, Umm Kulthum married her young cousin, Ja’far’s son Awn for a dower of 4,000 dirhams. She was amongst the women at the Battle of Karbala. In Abdullah’s lifetime, Hazrat Umm Kulthum (R.A) and her son Zayd (R.A) died simultaneously. Sa’id ibn al-‘As conducted their funeral prayers, and Abdullah ibn Omar and Abu Hurairah were among the congregation. Umm Kulthum is buried in the Baab Sagheer cemetery in Damascus, Syria.
