1988 – National Disability Employment Awareness Month

In 1988, the United States Congress declared October National Disability Employment Awareness Month to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with disabilities. The goal of National Disability Employment Awareness Month is to not only raise awareness but take action as well by providing information and resources about hiring people with disabilities.

1957 – Sputnik 1 Launched By U.S.S.R

On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1 into orbit. This was the first artificial satellite to be put into space and is considered by many as a symbol of U.S.S.R.’s technological superiority over the United States at that time; it was also one of the causes of panic about American security during this era-known as “the missile gap.” The launch also urged America to make its own satellites and invest in science education for future generations so they could compete with Russia’s high-tech advances on Earth and beyond!

2011 – Pakistan Bus Attack Martyrs Thirteen People

Thirteen Shia Muslims were killed in an attack on a bus in Pakistan on this date in 2011. In addition to those eight people, six others have been injured in the attacks that targeted Shia Muslims. The attack occurred near Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan.
