The joint session of the parliament concluded on Wednesday with the House passing 33 bills and deferring one bill, including significant changes to the Election Act. The government deferred one bill that appeared on the order of the day while passing the other 28. The joint meeting also passed five bills that were introduced under the supplementary order.
The International Court of Justice (Review and Reconsideration) Bill 2021 was another significant bill that was approved. The government, according to the opposition, passed the law to grant relief to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav. President Arif Alvi addressed the joint session of the parliament. These electoral reform laws will pave the path for the adoption of electronic voting machines in general elections in the future.
Despite the challenges, Prime Minister Imran appreciated allies, members of the National Assembly, and Senators who attended the meeting.
