Karachi: A news source reported that Chinese investors have expressed strong interest in establishing another optical fiber link between Khunjerab and Rawalpindi to connect Karachi with Gwadar.
The Minister of Information Technology, Syed Amin-Ul-Haque, said that local IT companies must engage in CPEC in order to enter the Chinese market.
It is crucial that this step be taken toward achieving stability within the government policies, which will also be helpful in attracting local and international businesses.
A Chinese investor is also interested in establishing an optic fiber link along the railway line linking Khunjerab and Rawalpindi.
There will be a portion of the fiber optic cable passing through the federal capital, 466 kilometers from G-B, 280 kilometers from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and 47 kilometers from Punjab.
A project was presented that was intended to connect Gwadar with Karachi, then carry the cable under the sea all the way to the Persian Gulf.
The minister expressed his desire to provide market access to Pakistani companies in the Chinese market during a high-level meeting with enterprises involved in the CPEC projects.
A high-level meeting was held between the government and CPEC project enterprises. A target for Pakistani companies was to have market access to the Chinese market, according to the minister.
There was also a discussion of initiatives to assist Chinese IT companies in establishing offices in Pakistan to achieve the proposed goals.
He explained that most Pakistani firms involved in IT export started out as subcontractors for giant companies in the West and elsewhere when discussing the ambitious goal of exporting IT services to Chinese markets.
In an effort to promote the IT industry and boost Pakistan’s digital economy, the government formed an advisory council led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on June 5.
Afnanullah Khan will chair a committee for personal data protection, while Jazz CEO Amir Ibrahim will chair a committee for telecommunications sector growth.
In addition to the 1800MW of hydropower, he stated that 8,000 jobs would be created as a result of the project.
