LAHORE : Government College University (GCU) Lahore’s syndicate approved the establishment of two departments, International Relations and Electronics, as well as four new BS and MPhil programs.
In addition to approving the university’s budget of almost Rs2.5 billion for 2022-23, vice chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi also presided over the 66th meeting of the syndicate.
The four BS programs approved are Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Gender & Climate Change and Disaster Management. Three MPhil programs were approved in Data Science, Sociology, and Public Policy and Governance.
A total of Rs 904 million has been allocated for the Old Campus’s annual work plan, while almost Rs 487 million has been committed for its development.
Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi informed the syndicate that in the next one-and-a-half years, GCU will complete the new academic block, faculty residences, central library and Sufi Center at its New Campus in Kala Shah Kaku (KSK).
As part of the syndicate’s decision, research incentives have been substantially increased. Faculty members will now be eligible for a reward of Rs 60,000 for publishing an article, and Rs 50,000 for publishing a book.
It was approved by the syndicate to appoint the Director of Sports, Computer Science Professor, Urdu Professor, and Zoology Associate Professor; Assistant Professors in Botany, Commerce,Clinical Psychology, Art History, Economics, Commerce, Finance, Economics, English, Fisheries, History, Law, Pharmacy, and Zoology; Lecturers in Clinical Psychology, English Professor, Finance, Economics, Management Studies, and Zoology; and Research Associates in Archive Studies, and Management Studies.
The professor thanked syndics for their invaluable contributions to the transformation of this 20-year-old university into a research-based institution at the end of the syndicate meeting.
We have also requested measures to expand our jurisdiction from Punjab to Pakistan and overseas. We would like to become a global university, so we have received suggestions from individuals and organizations to form a public-private partnership.
