Karachi: Saeed Ghani, the Provincial Local Government Minister, announced on August 26 that the newly reconstructed Korangi Causeway bridge will be opened to vehicular traffic on January 1, 2025. This significant infrastructure project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity for residents in the Korangi, Landhi, and Malir areas of Karachi.
During his visit to inspect the ongoing construction work on Sunday, Ghani highlighted the importance of this bridge as a key development for the city. He referred to the completion of the bridge as a “New Year’s gift” from the Sindh government to the people of Karachi. Ghani emphasized that this project is a major part of the Sindh government’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure improvement and development across the province.
Project Director Tariq Mughal provided the minister with a detailed briefing on the progress of the construction. He assured Ghani that work on the bridge is being carried out around the clock to ensure it is completed on time. The bridge is expected to play a crucial role in easing traffic flow and providing uninterrupted travel for thousands of daily commuters.
Ghani also pointed out that in previous years, the Korangi Causeway had been prone to severe traffic disruptions during the monsoon season due to flooding from the Malir River. The decision to reconstruct the bridge was made as an emergency measure to prevent such disruptions and ensure that traffic can move smoothly even during heavy rains and flooding. This project is a vital step toward safeguarding the city’s infrastructure against natural challenges.
In addition to the Korangi Causeway bridge, Ghani mentioned other ongoing mega projects in the region, including the construction of the Malir Expressway. The Malir Expressway is another ambitious initiative by the Sindh government aimed at providing a fast and efficient travel route for a significant portion of Karachi’s population. These projects are part of the broader vision of the Pakistan Peoples Party, led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to invest in essential infrastructure development across the province.
The Sindh government’s focus on upgrading Karachi’s infrastructure reflects its commitment to improving the quality of life for residents and enhancing the city’s overall connectivity.
