Punjab Targets 1 Million Kisan Card Registrations by Deadline

Lahore: The Government of Punjab’s ambitious Kisan Card initiative is rapidly advancing, with a target to register 1 million farmers by August 31. According to an update released on August 28, the registration process has already seen significant success, with 0.725 million farmers enrolled under the program so far.

The Punjab Chief Minister’s Kisan Card project is designed to empower farmers by offering them financial assistance and resources. This initiative aims to modernize agricultural practices and boost the farming sector’s overall productivity. To achieve this, the government is leveraging various outreach strategies, including SMS campaigns, to spread awareness about the Kisan Card program and encourage more farmers to register.

Efforts are well underway to complete the registration process, with data for 0.315 million farmers already forwarded to the Bank of Punjab. Beginning September 1, farmers will be able to access their Kisan Cards at tehsil-level branches of the bank. Additionally, the government is currently exploring the possibility of introducing a 25% cash withdrawal facility for farmers, making it easier for them to access the funds they need for their agricultural activities.

Beyond the Kisan Card program, the Punjab government is rolling out other supportive initiatives for the farming community. Applications will soon open for the Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, which provides farmers with access to modern machinery at subsidized rates. This scheme is designed to enhance farming efficiency and reduce the burden of manual labor. Furthermore, subsidies will soon be available for farmers looking to convert their tube wells to solar power, a move aimed at promoting sustainable energy use in agriculture.

In addition to these efforts, the selection process for 1,000 agricultural graduates under the Chief Minister’s Punjab Internship Programme has been completed. This program is intended to provide young professionals with hands-on experience in the agricultural sector, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to the province’s farming industry.

These initiatives represent the Punjab government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and supporting the state’s farmers. With a clear focus on sustainability, innovation, and empowerment, the Kisan Card program and related schemes are poised to drive significant improvements in agricultural productivity and farmer welfare across the region.
