Karachi: The Sindh government has given the go-ahead for several significant infrastructure and environmental projects, including a new expressway and an extensive afforestation initiative, as reported on September 2.
During the 45th Public Private Partnership Policy (PPPP) Board meeting, the government approved the construction of a new expressway designed to connect the Karachi Port Terminal with the Jam Sadiq Bridge. This expressway is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in the city and significantly enhance connectivity between key locations. Additionally, the Maripur Expressway and ICI Interchange project received approval, marking a crucial step towards resolving long-standing traffic challenges in the region.
Alongside infrastructure development, the Sindh government has launched an ambitious afforestation campaign to increase the province’s green cover. This initiative targets afforestation on 34,995 acres in the Jamshoro and Matiari districts. Reforestation efforts will also span across 88,022 hectares in various riverine areas. These environmental efforts are focused on enhancing climate resilience and restoring natural ecosystems, which is vital for the region’s sustainability.
The board also reviewed progress on the Marble City project, a key industrial development that spans 300 acres and is set to serve as a hub for the marble and granite industry. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of expediting the project’s development. Marble City’s strategic location near major ports and motorways makes it a promising investment opportunity for local and international stakeholders.
The government’s approval of these projects reflects its commitment to addressing Karachi’s pressing infrastructure needs while focusing on environmental sustainability. These initiatives are seen as pivotal in the city’s growth, aiming to improve daily life for residents and attract more investment to the region.
