Lahore: The Punjab Government has unveiled an ambitious initiative known as the “Chief Minister Punjab Model Cart Project,” aimed at enhancing street vending opportunities in Lahore. As part of the initial phase, 1,000 model carts will be deployed across 19 different locations throughout the city. The project was announced on September 2 and marks a significant step towards organized street vending in the province.
The pilot phase of the project has already begun, with model carts stationed along LOS Road. Each cart is equipped with a unique barcode to ensure proper management and traceability. The carts will be strategically placed along key routes, starting from Morriya Pul and extending to Delhi Gate, enhancing accessibility for vendors and convenience for shoppers.
In addition to the LOS Road deployment, several other model cart markets will be established at prominent locations across Lahore. These include Service Road Shahdara, Shadman, Pir Makki, Outfall Road, Kharrak Nala on Multan Road, Thokar Raiwind Road, and Bhati Chowk Raiwind. Other areas benefiting from the initiative are Madar-e-Millat Road Green Town, Kacha Jail Road, Gajumata Ferozepur Road, Makkah Colony, Peco Road, Harbanspura, Lal Pul, and Ashfaq Chowk Pepsi Road.
The project is not limited to these locations; additional model cart markets are set to be activated at GT Road Cooperative Store, Begumpura GT Road, and Daroghawala Chowk. This expansion aims to cover all major commercial areas and provide a structured marketplace for street vendors, ensuring better organization and cleanliness in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Saeed Musa Raza, has been entrusted with overseeing the implementation of the project at all 19 locations. His role will be crucial in ensuring that the carts are distributed efficiently and that the model cart markets operate smoothly.
The Punjab Government’s initiative is designed to improve livelihoods by creating more organized street vending options. This helps vendors and improves the overall aesthetic and cleanliness of Lahore’s streets. The project reflects the government’s focus on promoting small businesses while maintaining urban order and cleanliness in one of Pakistan’s largest cities.
