Federal Govt Funds PKR 947.5Bn Projects in KP

Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal informed the National Assembly on September 9 that the federal government is currently sponsoring 101 Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) projects across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The combined estimated cost of these projects stands at PKR 947.5 billion, according to a news source released on September 10.

The projects, being executed by various federal ministries and departments, are part of an extensive effort to boost development in the province. During the Question Hour, Minister Iqbal provided an update on the progress, noting that as of June 30, 2024, PKR 304.8 billion had already been invested in these initiatives. He also highlighted that the federal government has allocated PKR 52.4 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25 to continue advancing these projects, ensuring that momentum is maintained in the region’s development.

In addition to the ongoing initiatives, Minister Iqbal emphasized that the federal government has completed 20 significant projects in KP over the last two years. These completed projects, valued at PKR 17.9 billion, were also carried out by federal ministries and departments, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to KP’s development and infrastructure growth.

Minister Iqbal also addressed concerns regarding the allocation of federal funds, clarifying that there is no specific provincial share for any region, including Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan, when it comes to federal development projects. He explained that after the implementation of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, the provinces received 58.5% of revenue, while the federal government retained a 42.5% share. This new revenue-sharing structure places a greater responsibility on the provinces to manage their development projects while the federal government continues to contribute through initiatives like the PSDP.

The minister’s remarks underline the federal government’s ongoing efforts to support Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s economic and infrastructural growth through strategic investments. These projects are expected to have a lasting positive impact on the region, benefiting residents by improving infrastructure, creating job opportunities, and enhancing public services.

Citizens of KP are encouraged to stay updated on the progress of these projects as the government continues to focus on ensuring the timely and efficient execution of these crucial initiatives.
