Islamabad: The first batch of joint exchange programs between the Pakistan Science Foundation and the National Natural Science Foundation of China for 2022 will be launched soon.
Approximately 15 pairs of researchers from each nation will be supported to engage in a joint research project, the source said, requesting anonymity to protect their identity.
In addition to the Internet of Things, Computer Science, Blockchain, Biometrics, Virtual Reality, Big Data, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Robotics, 3D Printing, Climate Change and water, food, and ecosystem security, these priority areas also include Cyber Security.
A source told Gwadar Pro that the Pakistan Science Foundation will provide Rs4 million grants to each Pakistani researcher, and the National Science Foundation will fund the Chinese researchers. Researchers from China and Pakistan must submit joint research proposals with NSFC and PSF under the programme.
Researchers from both organisations establish connections independently, rather than participating in matchmaking.
According to the source, this will give Chinese and Pakistani scientists a boost and deepen scientific cooperation between them.
As of July 1, 2022, the process of evaluating the joint research proposals has already begun, and the program will be launched following the approval of the government’s fiscal year 2022-23 budget.
Participants in this programme are scholars and researchers affiliated with universities duly chartered by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) as well as research centres and institutes in the public sector.
