CDA Plans to Construct Elevated U-turns on Srinagar Highway

U-turns on Srinagar Highway

Islamabad: Srinagar Highway’s protective u-turns are being redesigned by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

In a visit earlier this year, the chairman of the CDA Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis visited protective u-turns that had been constructed earlier this year to make Srinagar Highway signal-free.

On this busy highway, which connects Islamabad to the motorway network and the airport, the CDA chief has requested the officials to collect vehicle data about the u-turns used by vehicles.

On Wednesday, CDA’s retired Capt Mohamamd Usman, after chairing a meeting, tweeted that the traffic engineering department will submit eco-friendly designs within five days, using existing data and based on future needs.

Upon the launch of an integrated bus service and completion of other ongoing projects, the flow of traffic in Islamabad will become smoother, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and reduced environmental impact.

Evergreen flowering plants were installed for the purpose of beautifying the 25-kilometre long Srinagar Highway (formerly known as Kashmir Highway). Preparation work on flower beds has been done.

As one of the most important east-west highways in Islamabad, the Srinagar Highway runs from the Capital Territory to the city of Kashmir. It connects the Islamabad International Airport to the E-75 Expressway in the east and allows quick access to the Islamabad International Airport.

It is one of the most dangerous driving maneuvers on Srinagar Highway to make a U-turn, and this has tragic consequences for the drivers. Speeding vehicles cannot change their course and avoid accidents when they encounter an unexpected turn.
