On Monday, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led Sindh Government launched the Peoples Bus Service in Karachi. It has been confirmed that 240 buses will be launched, out of which 140 have already been delivered.
There are 31 seats in the buses, including two for the disabled, and there is space to accommodate 80 passengers, according to Sindh Mass Transit Authority.
According to a tweet posted by Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon on Thursday, buses on route No. 2 of the Sindh Intra-District Peoples Bus Service in Karachi will begin formal commercial operations on Friday (today).
North Karachi neighborhood and Indus Hospital will be connected by the buses. Their route will be Shafiq Morr, Sohrab Goth, Nagan Chowrangi, Nipa, Jauhar Morr, Gulshan Chowrangi, COD, Colony Gate, Drigh Road Station, Singer Chowrangi, Faisal Colony, and Landhi to reach the Indus hospital.
Minister for the province said that the Pakistan People’s Party is delivering on its promises to the citizens of Karachi. Orange Line will be launched soon after this bus service is introduced for citizens of Orangi.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), inaugurated the service on Monday, after which bus operations began on route No. 1 from Model Colony to Merewether Tower.
Seven routes in the city will be served by 240 buses imported from China. PBS ticket prices have not yet been announced. The government, however, is expected to set a minimum price of Rs25 and a maximum price of Rs55 for bus service, according to unofficial sources.
As part of this project, 130 buses will be used in Karachi, while 10 buses will be used in Larkana. The Larkana bus routes will run along the Indus Highway for 10.3 kilometers starting from Larkana Bus Terminal to Larkana Junction.
In addition to the batch of 100 buses already arriving at the Karachi port on Tuesday to join the fleet, a further 100 buses were brought in from China on Tuesday.
During the inauguration, Memon stated that the provincial government of the PPP would go the extra mile to provide the best public transportation facilities to the people of the city.
As he had stated, the Sindh Government of the Pakistan Peoples Party had been moving swiftly to meet its commitment to the people of Karachi that a modern and comfortable bus service for daily travel would soon be available to them.
