Pakistan and China need to develop joint degree programs – Prof. Tan Biyou

Islamabad :China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) construction will require a group of high-level talents with strict professional and cultural training. Cooperation and joint degrees between China and Pakistan are necessary to meet the needs of both countries.

Prof. Tan Biyou of China’s Hunan Normal University spoke at the Second South Asia Forum on the theme of Pakistan in social transition, which was hosted by CHPECI.

Unless engineers involved at all levels in management and operation truly understand and are able to interact safely and effectively with people in Pakistan, they will come to regret their efforts.

High-level talents, including masters and doctors, who are proficient in Chinese and Pakistani cultures must be involved in the joint degree program jointly run by Chinese and Pakistani universities.

From the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan in 1951, there has been a continuous flow of exploration and cooperation in education between the two countries.

The development of educational cooperation has been relatively slow in both countries due to their different national conditions. Nonetheless, China and Pakistan have been friends for a long time, albeit limited to political and military cooperation.

One of the important outcomes of the treaty was the establishment of Confucius Institutes in Pakistan. Language teaching is the main activity of Confucius Institutes, not degree-granting education.
