Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has launched an initiative to provide 1,224 free flats for workers in Taxila and Sundar labor colonies, according to a news source on July 11. This move aims to enhance the welfare and living conditions of workers in the region.
During a high-level meeting, significant decisions were made to boost workers’ welfare. These decisions included a comprehensive review of the Labour Department’s performance and detailed briefings on various projects, such as scholarships for workers, labor colonies, and healthcare initiatives. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to ensure workers receive the support and resources they need.
CM Maryam underscored the allocation of PKR 6 billion to address overdue death and marriage grants for over 29,000 workers. This substantial financial commitment is expected to alleviate the financial burdens faced by many workers and their families, ensuring they receive timely support during critical times.
Furthermore, approval was granted for the construction of two hostels for women workers in Garment City, Sheikhupura. These hostels will provide accommodation for 704 women, offering them a safe and supportive environment. This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to improving the living and working conditions of women in the workforce.
CM Maryam reaffirmed Punjab’s government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and guaranteeing their security and well-being. She emphasized the importance of enforcing the minimum wage of PKR 37,000 with the support of all stakeholders. The CM stressed that protecting every worker is a fundamental responsibility of the government, and concerted efforts will be made to ensure compliance with this wage policy.
In addition to these initiatives, the government also focuses on providing healthcare facilities and scholarships for workers’ children. These measures are designed to enhance workers’ and their families’ overall quality of life, promoting a more equitable and just society.
The government’s proactive approach towards workers’ welfare is a positive step towards creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all workers in Punjab. The government is working towards a future where workers’ rights and well-being are prioritized by addressing key issues such as housing, financial support, and healthcare.
