Islamabad: The Government of Pakistan has allocated PKR 78 billion for various development initiatives in Sindh as part of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the current fiscal year, as reported on September 2. These funds are intended to support the province’s growth through key infrastructure projects, with significant portions directed towards transportation and water management.
According to the PSDP report, PKR 1.14 billion has already been disbursed within the first two months of the fiscal year. Notable among the funded projects is the Sindh Coastal Highway, which has been allocated PKR 1 billion. This highway is set to play a crucial role in boosting the connectivity of coastal areas in the province. Additionally, PKR 1.6 billion has been designated for the Stone Pitching Northern Dadu Canal project. This canal work aims to improve water flow management, reduce erosion, and enhance agricultural irrigation in the region, supporting the livelihoods of local farmers.
In another related development, the Sindh government has approved the construction of a new expressway that will link the Karachi Port Terminal to Jam Sadiq Bridge. This major decision was made during a recent Public Private Partnership (PPP) Board meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. The 12.5-kilometer expressway, once completed, will connect with the Malir Expressway, further enhancing Karachi’s road network and easing traffic congestion. The expressway project will be executed under a PPP model in collaboration with the local government and the PPP unit, reflecting a strong partnership between the public and private sectors.
Currently, there are 22 federal projects underway in Sindh, all aimed at accelerating the province’s development. These projects span various sectors, including infrastructure, water management, and energy, underscoring the federal government’s commitment to Sindh’s growth. The funds allocated for the Sindh Coastal Highway and Dadu Canal projects are expected to drive economic growth, improve local infrastructure, and positively impact the lives of residents.
The PSDP is seen as a crucial driver of national development, and Sindh’s share of funding reflects the strategic importance of the province to Pakistan’s overall progress. By focusing on both transportation and water resource management, the government aims to address some of Sindh’s most pressing challenges and contribute to long-term regional stability.
