1946 – Nazi War Criminals Were Sentenced To Be Hanged
A substantial number of war crimes were ordered, organized, and condoned by the German Empire and Nazi Germany, first in the genocide of the Hereros and Namaqua people and then in both World Wars. Eleven Nazi war criminals were sentenced to be hanged at the Nuremberg trials on 1st October 1948. These war criminals’ names include, Hermann Goring, Alfred Jodl, Hans Frank, Wilhelm Frick, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Wilhelm Keitel, Joachin von Ribbentrop, Fritz Saukel, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, Julius Streicher, and Alfred Rosenberg.
331 BCE – Alexander defeated Darius III of Persia
The Battle of Gaugamela took place approximately 100 kilometers west of Erbil, Iraq, in 331 BC, in which Alexander the Great defeated Darius III of Persia. Darius escaped to the city after the battle. However, Arbela is sometimes called the “Battle of Arbela,” which is somewhat inaccurate.
1965 – Cambodia Boycott UN Committees
On this day in 1965, As a protest against the alleged ineffectiveness of the UN, Cambodia announced it would boycott all the government-led committees of the UN General Assembly.
