Lahore has dominated the global ranking for the city with the worst air quality once again. The smog layer in the city intensified on Wednesday, with the Air Quality Index reaching 348 (Hazardous). Citizens in many areas, particularly where the AQI level was high due to ongoing construction, face serious breathing difficulties. Different regions of Lahore witnessed adverse Air Quality Index (AQI) crossing over 400.
Vehicle emissions, industrial pollution, and crop residue burning to prepare fields for the next season are the biggest sources of air pollution, according to the Environment Protection Department. Ban on burning municipal waste has been imposed by Lahore Commissioner Muhammad Usman and strict actions will be taken against violators. In the meantime, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) published a monthly report on its smog-control efforts. PDMA has collected fines from different sectors, registered cases, and arrested the violators.
