As smog levels are rising with the change in weather, the air quality in Lahore has been declared very unhealthy’ for all inhabitants, areas like Model Town, Johar Town, Green Town, and Cantonment neighborhoods have the greatest levels of pollution. To address the increasing risk of smog in Lahore, Punjab’s provincial capital, an anti-smog squad has been formed. According to the reports, the Anti-Smog Squad would be made up of five teams, each with five members, who will visit the industries and levy fines if any violations are found. Officers from the environmental protection department will supervise the teams, which will also include officials from the police, WASA, LESCO, and the Municipal Corporation.
The pollution level in the provincial capital of Punjab province has been beyond the safe level, according to Secretary of Health Imran Sikander, who has urged hospitals to set up smog counters as soon as possible. The rising level of smog can cause chronic cough, respiratory issues, and eye cancer as well. In addition, the Punjab Environment Minister stated that the environment department, in partnership with SUPARCO, is initiating a pilot project in Lahore to develop several types of environmental models to identify the causes of pollution.
