PM Imran Khan appoints Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum as DG ISI
A notification has been issued by the government of Pakistan for the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the new Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). In the meantime, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed will remain in his seat in the new post until Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum takes over on November 20. After nearly three weeks of waiting, the Prime Minister’s Office sent the notification.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the process of the appointment of DG ISI involved a list of officers nominated by the Ministry of Defence, which were all interviewed by the prime minister. A final round of consultations was then held today between PM Imran Khan and the army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa. After a detailed consultative process, Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum was approved as the new DG ISI.
Who is Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum, The Director General Inter Services Intelligence nominee?
Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmad Anjum is a three-star general in the Pakistan Army. A long course graduate of the 77th PMA, he has been commissioned in the 28th Punjab Regiment of infantry. Between December 2016 and December 2018, he served as Inspector-General of the Frontier Corps stationed in Balochistan.
Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum is a battle-hardened soldier. FC Balochistan conducted several successful anti-terrorism operations under his command. His efforts to eradicate terrorism earned him the title of ‘Mohsin-e-Balochistan’. Nadeem’s subordinates reportedly refer to him as the “man with a glacier brain but sharp reflexes”. His report also indicates that he listens well, observes for hours, speaks clearly, and speaks for long periods of time.
