PESHAWAR: The KP government is promoting sports, culture, and tourism in the province, according to Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
They would not only promote healthy activities, but also contribute significantly to the budget, he said. According to a statement issued here by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is taking result-oriented steps to promote the tourism and sports industries in a modern manner.
Sports complexes will be constructed in Chitral, Lower Dir, Hangu, and Abbottabad as part of the current Annual Development Plan as well as existing facilities will be rehabilitated and improved.
According to Mahmood Khan, the government has taken a number of initiatives in the Sports and Tourism sectors over the past four years, including the establishment of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture & Tourism Authority to promote tourism at an international level and project a positive image of the country and province.
As Mahmood Khan pointed out, sports facilities are also being provided in the newly merged districts. In the Sports, Tourism, Youth Affairs, Archeology and Culture sectors, the current ADP reflects 124 projects, including 90 that are ongoing and 34 that are new, worth around Rs.19.5 billion.
The Tourism Police has also been launched for the protection and security of tourists. Three new development authorities have been set up – Kalash, Kumrat, and Upper Swat.
Tourism facilities have been installed at different tourist spots for the facilitation of tourists, as well as rehabilitation and construction of roads in Malakand and Hazara region.
There is a plan to establish four integrated tourism zones in Malakand and Hazara divisions of the province that will boost tourism once it is completed. Providing state-of-the-art facilities to youth and training them to compete at the international level has been achieved in the sports sector, said Mahmood Khan.
