Lahore Secures PKR 1,370bn for Major Urban Upgrades

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz has sanctioned a substantial budget of PKR 1,370 billion to fund a series of development projects across Lahore. According to a news report dated August 3, these initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure and public amenities, particularly in the city’s suburban areas.

The allocated funds will primarily focus on upgrading streets, alleys, and other essential facilities in less-developed neighborhoods. The comprehensive development plan includes significant improvements to the city’s drainage systems, the paving of roads, and the installation of modern street lighting. Additionally, the project extends to the restoration and rehabilitation of parks and cemeteries, ensuring that these spaces are well-maintained and accessible to the public.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has emphasized the urgency of these improvements, setting a firm deadline of 10 months for the completion of all the planned initiatives. Out of the total budget, a significant portion, PKR 78 billion, has been specifically earmarked for 867 different schemes aimed at transforming the city’s infrastructure. Notably, PKR 590 million has been allocated to projects targeting the improvement of suburban and underserved areas, highlighting the government’s commitment to equitable urban development.

The Lahore Revamping Programme, as the initiative is known, has been divided into three distinct packages to streamline the execution of these projects. The first package includes development schemes across six zones of the city, ensuring that key areas receive the necessary upgrades. The second package covers three additional schemes that focus on critical infrastructure needs, while the third package is dedicated to the upliftment of suburban regions, ensuring that these areas are brought up to par with the more developed parts of Lahore.

With these ambitious projects, the Punjab government aims to significantly enhance the quality of life for Lahore’s residents, particularly those in previously neglected areas. The successful completion of this initiative is expected to lead to a more connected, efficient, and livable city, reflecting the government’s dedication to sustainable urban development.
