Three of the most notable cricket venues in the nation, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, National Stadium in Karachi, and Rawalpindi Stadium, are set to undergo major renovations according to a project announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This significant initiative received final approval from Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who confirmed the plans on August 16.
The primary objective of this project is to modernize these iconic venues in preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy. During a recent trip to the United Kingdom, Naqvi visited the headquarters of BDP, a leading international stadium design firm responsible for the redesigns. During his visit, he reviewed the progress made on the upgrade projects and evaluated the final design plans presented by the BDP team.
Naqvi expressed his approval and satisfaction with the proposed designs, commending the design team for their exceptional work in creating modern, functional, and aesthetically pleasing stadiums. He acknowledged that completing these upgrades within the tight schedule posed a significant challenge, but he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver the projects on time.
To ensure the projects meet the high standards required for hosting international events like the Champions Trophy, Naqvi confirmed that he is personally overseeing the progress. He assured fans and stakeholders that the stadiums will be ready well before the Champions Trophy, fully equipped to meet the rigorous demands of the prestigious tournament.
These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the facilities at each venue, bringing them up to international standards. The improvements will not only prepare the stadiums for the Champions Trophy but also position them as premier venues capable of hosting top-tier cricket events in the future.
With these enhancements, the PCB aims to solidify Pakistan’s status as a key player in the global cricketing community and ensure that these stadiums are ready to welcome both players and spectators for world-class matches.
