PDWP Allocates PKR 9bn for Roads and Healthcare in Punjab

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has sanctioned an impressive allocation of PKR 9 billion for a series of critical infrastructure and healthcare projects set to commence in the fiscal year 2024-25. This decision, aimed at bolstering the region’s roads and healthcare facilities, was finalized during a PDWP meeting held on Wednesday and reported on August 1.

Key Projects Approved

Among the major projects approved, the rehabilitation of key roadways and the development of a healthcare initiative stand out. The Kasur to Raiwind Road Rehabilitation project, which has been allocated a substantial budget of PKR 2.095 billion, aims to improve one of the vital routes connecting these regions. This project is crucial for enhancing the accessibility and safety of travelers along this route.

Another significant undertaking is the Shoria Gilania Chowk to Samina Sadat Road Rehabilitation project, with an allocation of PKR 418.345 million. This project is expected to address the deterioration of the road and ensure smoother transportation in the area.

In Sahiwal City, a new flyover at the Jhal Road Railway Crossing is set to be constructed, with an approved budget of PKR 914 million. This flyover is intended to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a safer passage over the railway tracks, a frequent bottleneck in the city’s transportation network.

Additionally, the PDWP has approved the dual carriageway project from the M-3 Motorway Samundri Interchange to Samundri City in Faisalabad. With a budget of PKR 1.767 billion, this project will significantly enhance the connectivity between the motorway and the city, facilitating smoother transit for residents and commercial vehicles alike.

In Multan, the Shujabad Jalalpur Pirwala Road Rehabilitation has been earmarked PKR 2.7 billion. This project is set to revitalize the road, making it more reliable for the heavy traffic it often accommodates. Similarly, the dualization of Thalli Chowk to Iqbalabad Road in Rahim Yar Khan, with a budget of PKR 1.025 billion, will further boost regional infrastructure.

On the healthcare front, the Infection Control Programme Phase II has been allocated PKR 473.636 million. This phase is designed to strengthen infection control measures, an essential step in enhancing public health services across the province.
