The Taliban Captured Afghanistan’s Capital city, Kabul.

During the third Afghan civil war from 1996-2001, the Taliban captured Kabul and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was established on 27 September 1996. US and UK troops invaded Afghanistan on 7 October 2001: a period overlapping with the Afghan civil war that began in 1989, and with the war in Afghanistan that began in 1978.

NASA launches Dawn probe to explore and study the two larges objects of the asteroid belt, Vesta and Ceres

As of this date in 2007, NASA’s Dawn spacecraft transformed science fiction into reality by using ion propulsion to explore Vesta and Ceres, two of the world’s largest asteroid belt bodies.

1962 Establishment of Yemen Arab Republic

On this day in 1962, the Yemen Arab Republic was established by Gamal Abdel Nasser who staged a coup that deposed King Muhammad Al-Badr. A country called the Yemen Arabic Republic, formerly known as North Yemen or Yemen (Sana*a), existed in the northwestern region of Yemen from 1962 to 1990.
