LAHORE: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar approved the construction of an elevated expressway – from Gulberg to motorway M2. As a result of the meeting of the governing body of the Lahore Development Authority, CM Buzdar has approved the preliminary plan for the elevated expressway.
Upon completion, the 10.5 KM expressway from Gulberg to M2 will cost Rs 50 billion. As the elevated road approaches Babu Sabu, it would pass through Canal Bank Road, Jaill Road, Feroze Pur Road, and Bund Road. Considering Lahore’s growing population, megaprojects have been launched, says Usman Buzdar.
In a directive from the Minister, the Financial Department, Plan and Development Department and Lahore Development Authority have been asked to prepare a financial plan and a timeframe for the construction of an elevated expressway, so that work can begin as soon as possible.
According to CM Buzdar, the project will reduce traffic congestion by 65% on major roads in the province’s capital. Earlier this month, CM Buzdar instructed the concerned departments to begin work on the elevated expressway as soon as possible. Details show that the expressway project will alleviate traffic on Canal Road and Multan Road.
According to estimates, the expressway would reduce commute times by 30 minutes on the route and provide capacity for 73,000 vehicles each day. The project will help commuters in Lahore get to work east to west and decrease the massive amount of traffic on existing roads.
The environment impact assessment (EIA) indicates that vehicle congestion on the roads is one of the primary causes of environmental pollution, and the expressway will help reduce that pollution as well.
Moreover, the Minister announced that the government would hold traditional horse and cattle shows across the province during a three-day show period beginning March 10.
During the Show, cottage industries and small businesses will be given special attention, while an emphasis will be placed on the harmonious blend of modern technology and tradition.
Aside from that, the local government should provide a detailed overview of the responsibilities of various departments and the estimated costs of the Horse and Cattle Show, he noted.
There were over 12 recommendations made during the meeting, most of which were approved, including the annual development program for roads and water supply schemes in small districts.
In addition, the tourism department’s request for incorporating the feasibility study proposal for the installation of a chairlift and cable car at Fort Monroe into the annual development plan was approved.
Through a special package, the Punjab Divisional Headquarters and Lahore will also be upgraded. The package will restore roads, footpaths, parks, traffic signals, and street lights.
