Punjab Food Authority Takes Strict Action Against Unregistered Water Companies

LAHORE: During a raid in Nishtar Town, Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed an emergency prohibition order (EPO) halting unregistered water filtration and drinking water production.

Water samples were sent for laboratory testing after 5,000 liters of water bottles and a large stock of water were confiscated. PFA Director General Mudassar Riaz Malik informed the membership of this development.

Food business operators (FBO) were selling bottled water without getting accreditation from competent authorities, he claimed. In his statement, he said that PFA imposed EPO after they violated the Punjab Pure Food Regulations and failed to present the training and medical certificates of their workers.

In Punjab, the DG of the PFA has warned FBOs to procure food-graded bottles and obtain registration certificates to operate water filtration plants or bottle water suppliers. The authority will continue to indiscriminately enforce its anti-illegal food business policies throughout the state.
