The rise of plastic pollution in Pakistan has gained attention recently. although the problem has been identified, it has become obvious that increasing levels of dedication, innovation, and investment are required, and now Pakistan is going to take its first step towards innovation.
To minimize carbon emissions and recycle plastic waste, CDA, in conjunction with Coca-Cola, has begun a pilot project at F9 Park to develop a plastic road, the first of its kind in Pakistan. The Plastic Road is one-kilometer-long and includes enough recycled plastic to fill over one million plastic cups. It’s a huge step forward from standard asphalt roads to future-proof plastic roads that provide both innovation and sustainability.
CDA Spokesperson Rana Shakeel Asghar said “Regularly, 500 to 600 tonnes of municipal waste and 150 to 200 tonnes of plastic waste is recovered in Islamabad, Utilizing the daily recovered plastic in road construction would considerably reduce the city’s pollution” He further said that after the F-9 trial project, the technique would not only be used in Islamabad but also in other cities across the country and on major highways in the capital.
