Islamabad: A total of Rs80 million will be spent by the Capital Development Authority on the maintenance and rehabilitation of street lights to keep the city illuminated at night.
CDA’s Street Light Department will install new streetlights and repair faulty streetlights and transformers on numerous highways, intersections, link roads, markets, and streets throughout Islamabad, a CDA spokesman said.
An announcement of the tender will be made in national newspapers shortly before work begins, he said. Aamer Ali Ahmed, chairman of the CDA, said that the department is committed to providing all required resources for the street lighting division, in the best interests of the capital city’s residents.
According to the spokesperson, street lights were crucial for providing citizens with a safe and comfortable commute, as well as for ensuring the safety of the city at night. Several highways and connecting roads from GT Road to Haj Complex as well as Sector I-14/2-3 are being lit by new street lights, with a budget of more than Rs20 million.
Also, a budget of over Rs19 million has been assigned to replace old and faulty street lights, as well as install new and modern street lights on Sector I-11/2’s major highways and link roads.
In addition, Rs16 million was allocated for sector I-16 to ensure that adequate lighting systems are installed on major highways, service roads, and markets.
Moreover, Rs11 million will be used for lighting arrangements until the Victory Pipe Industrial Area is reached via Sector I-10, Faqir Appi Road.
A sum of Rs11 million was set aside for the installation of new and modern street lights in Sector I-14-1, I-14/3, and I-14/4, whereas Rs7 million was set aside for the installation of new street lights in Sector H-11 from NUST University Gate No 1 to Srinagar Highway.
