A Private Company is All Set To Handle Metro Bus Operations in Islamabad

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board is handing over the metro bus service between Peshawar Morr and Islamabad International Airport to a private entity at a comparatively low rate compared with other services being provided in the country.

A special emphasis is being placed by CDA management on providing modern and comfortable urban transport systems to the Capital’s residents to reduce traffic congestion as well as air pollution.

According to a news release, CDA Chairman Aamer Ali Ahmed presided over the board meeting that approved the proposal.

NLC will construct bus stations along the routes of the Green, and Blue metro bus services, as well as the contract for the construction of the bus stations, was awarded to National Logistic Cell (NLC).

Attended by CDA Board members, the meeting was held in English. There was also discussion of various agenda items, as well as approval of various projects.

Additionally, the operation to beautify the track of the Islamabad Orange Line Metro Bus Service from Peshawar Morr to New Islamabad Airport is currently in full swing.

Furthermore, Frontier Works Organization (FWO) was approved to construct segregated tracks under Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) guidelines.

Also, at the meeting, a summary of consultancy services related to public transportation was presented. As part of the directive, the board was directed to revise the summary and present it at the next board meeting.

The environment wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had continued work on the project even during the Eidul Azha holidays, a senior official of the authority told the media on Tuesday.

Besides planting trees at appropriate places, the environment wing decorates the project with seasonal flowers of different colors.

Similarly, underpasses will be decorated with symbols representing the country’s history and culture, he said, adding that an app will also be made available for online ticketing and bus schedules.

As a result of the large number of people taking advantage of the Orange Line Metro Bus route, the CDA administration expressed satisfaction with the average daily ridership on the route. A daily passenger load of 20,000 was being carried by 15 buses, according to the project’s director Qazi Umar.

He mentioned that the most crowded stations on the orange and red lines were the Faiz Ahmed Faiz junction, and the least crowded stations were the police foundation mauve area stop. A query was answered by saying that ridership on this route was steadily increasing.

A surge in ridership on the Orange Line happened after the green and blue lines were launched on Sri Nagar Highway and Express Way respectively, which improved connectivity between various areas of the capital.
