Islamabad: CDA has set a deadline of the end of next month for completing Phase I of I J Principal Road starting from G T Road to Sector I-11, Mandi Morr.
The work of the first phase from G T Road to Mandi Morr is progressing at a good pace and the contractor, National Logistic Cell (NLC), is on schedule to complete the work by the end of August,” an official with CDA said.
The official stated that the contractor has begun asphalt work on various parts of both sides after completing the required activities, demonstrating neither a slowdown nor a suspension in development activity.
Despite the rainy season, some hurdles were encountered, but such things are always kept in mind when setting deadlines and targets.
‘The News’ has been informed by a senior official at CDA that the project’s costs would be revised because diesel prices have increased as the contractor will manage things in its own way to avoid fuel wastage.
By the end of next month, they will have completed more than half of the work from G T Road and Mandi Morr. At the intersection of 9th Avenue, I J Principal Road, and Rawalpindi Stadium Road, the contractor had already completed piling work and construction of pillars for the flyover.
IJ Principal Road and 10th Avenue will be expanded and rebuilt after the construction of 10th avenue is completed, considerably altering the traffic flow between Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
It is anticipated that the traffic load on 9th Avenue would decrease as commuters using the 10th Avenue will travel toward the Srinagar Highway and Margalla Road from Rawalpindi cantonment, Satellite Town, and surrounding areas, sectors I-9, I-10, and I-11.
The completion of 10th Avenue would also reduce the distance between the motorway and Islamabad International Airport for those using I J Principal Road.
After passing through sectors 9 and 10, 10th Avenue ends at Margalla after starting from I J Principal Road (Katarian Bridge). Two main roads are being constructed by the CDA and its contractors, so commuters feel that quality work should be ensured.
As a result of substandard work and a lack of provision of separate lanes for heavy traffic, the I J Principal Road deteriorated within a few years after it was expanded nearly 18 years ago.
