Rawalpindi: On Wednesday, the Deputy Commissioner (Rawalpindi) signed the documents releasing payments to contractors in Rawalpindi city areas after a three-month break.

Construction has once again resumed on all the development schemes for Raja Bazaar, Asghar Mall, Sadiqabad, City Saddar Road, Muslim Town, Defence Road, Adiala Road, Commercial Market, Satellite Town, Pindora, Liaquat Bagh, Tipu Road, and a few other places after funds are released.

The construction work on roads, footpaths, nallahs, fixing tuff tiles, the establishment of weekly bazaars and public toilets, fish belly works, installations of lights and traffic signals, parking plazas, U-turns and many other works have been restarted after clearance of pending bills.

“The News” reported that Rawalpindi DC Tahir Farooq signed all pending files in order to restart development works. It was his intention to refurbish the historical Raja Bazaar in order to make it more attractive. Additionally, he has instructed all relevant officers to submit a final plan for the start of work. Maps for all residential and commercial buildings have been cleared as well.

It was just a few days ago that the contractors’ common people decided to go to Garaho’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) to protest pending bills and maps that remained unpaid for over three months.

The strike was called off when all payments were released to contractors and affected individuals. After not receiving payment for over three months, the contractors had stopped working on all development projects in the city. However, now the work has been resumed on all the projects after DC Rawalpindi has given the approval and released the funds.
