Lahore: To reduce the financial burden, Water And Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has agreed to install solar power systems at its facilities in collaboration with Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency.
This agreement outlines a transition to solar power for the Multan Road Disposal Station in 2023, which will create 1 Megawatt of renewable energy.
A delegation from Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency arrived at Wasa Head Office on Wednesday to sign the agreement. Wasa MD Ghafran Ahmed and Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency Managing Director Abdul Rehman signed the agreement.
In a statement, Wasa Managing Director said the project cost around Rs160 million. It is expected that the introduction of solar energy in Wasa will promote a greener and cleaner Pakistan and reduce air pollution in the province.
As a result of the agency’s electricity bills, the Managing Director replied that it pays more than Rs 70 crore per month.
The huge monthly expenses on electricity bills will be greatly reduced after Wasa converts all installations to solar energy.
The Multan Road Disposal Station has been converted to solar energy as a first step, Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed said, adding Wasa is continuously incorporating new technologies to improve efficiency. Among the officers present were DMD Manan Ahmed, Abdul Latif, Director Imtiaz Mujtabi Ghori, and others.
