While speaking with The News, WASA Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed reported that the organization has repeatedly written to the departments as well as to the federal and provincial governments to get their outstanding arrears paid.
As a result of these soaring outstanding arrears, Wasa is facing a financial crisis. Besides recovering outstanding arrears from private housing societies, the agency also started a recovery drive.
While the agency continues to send reminders to the government departments to recover arrears, the agency will continue its drive against private housing societies.
The private housing societies were warned to pay their outstanding amounts immediately otherwise they would be disconnected. Sewerage connections of several private housing societies have already been disconnected, and these connections will only be restored once the outstanding arrears have been cleared.
