An inquiry has been ordered into the delay of Islamabad metro bus construction by PM

Islamabad: The Prime Minister has ordered that the Islamabad Metro Bus Service will soon be operationalized and an inquiry will be held into the delay in the launch of the service, which has been on hold for four years.

He inspected the on-ground progress of the project at Peshawar More metro bus station at 7 a.m. Islamabad Metro Bus Service was launched in 2017 by then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and is scheduled to begin operations in 2018.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was ordered to run the metro bus service between Peshawar More and Islamabad International Airport for the comfort of passengers traveling towards the airport. In addition, he ordered to conduct feasibility studies for two additional routes, which will connect the airport with Rawat and Bhara Kahu as per PPRA (Public Procurement Regulatory Authority) rules.

For better connectivity and to make the service more beneficial to as many people as possible, he ordered the establishment of a metrobus station at the motorway. As far as Shehbaz Sharif is concerned, the delay in the implementation of the project has been deemed severe negligence, since Rs 16 billion had been spent on the major government undertaking.

Tax money was consumed by the general public, however, return facilities were denied to them. To assess the reasons for the delay that resulted in the loss of national wealth, the official concerned was instructed to formulate an inquiry’s terms of reference.

To accommodate passengers’ luggage en route to the airport, the prime minister suggested installing luggage racks in buses. In anticipation of the installation of ticketing machines, he directed the running of a free trial period.
