Defaulters’ sewerage connections will be disconnected by WASA

LAHORE: WASA has launched a recovery drive against its defaulter private housing societies to recover its outstanding dues.

A deadline has been given to WASA officers for the payment of pending dues before disconnecting connections with defaulters. In addition to legal action, defaulters who failed to pay their pending dues within the deadline would also be faced with civil lawsuits.

An official meeting was held at the Wasa head office recently to take this decision. Agency’s Managing Director Ghafran Ahmed chaired the meeting while Director Legal Shahzab Amin, Director Faisal Khurram, Director Hafiz Raheel, Director Legal, Director Revenue, DMD Abdul Latif, Director Sohail Qadir Cheema, Director Adeel Sharif, as well as other staff members attended.

Financial irregularities must be eliminated by a joint strategy devised by the agency’s O&M and revenue wings. It should be taken strict action against defaulting housing societies and their sewerage connections would be severed if they don’t pay their debts.

Directors should submit detailed reports on their towns and collect sewerage and infrastructure charges on a priority basis from all societies.

He warned that irregularities in billing collection would not be tolerated. To prevent dengue and prevent stagnant water from forming in their areas, he instructed all officers to remain active.
