FWO wins Ring Road contract from RDA

Rawalpindi: In a mega project for Rawalpindi Ring Road, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has awarded a contract worth Rs22.8 billion to Frontier Works Organization (FWO). As part of the project, FWO submitted a bid that was Rs300 million cheaper than the estimated cost.

In the past few months, the project’s route had given the government a bad name after two cabinet members were implicated in an alteration that raised the cost of land acquisition by Rs10 billion. A separate revision was made to the land component scheme cost, which has been revised downward from over Rs16 billion to Rs6.7 billion.

Following the opening of the technical and financial bids in the presence of all concerned, RDA chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza said the FWO emerged as the lowest bidder.

According to him, FWO offers a discount after the financial bids are opened. He said that the construction work of a 38.3 km long main carriageway from Baanth (N-5) to Thallian (M-2), would be completed under the Rawalpindi Ring Road project.

Project completion is supposed to take three years, but authorities have hardly ever completed any projects on time due to lack of resources and poor planning and execution.
